The fourth race in the Causeway Coast Adventure Race Series takes place in just under two weeks – 21 June 2008. This race is
the Kilbroney Challenge - the guys at Not the Sunday Run (NTSR) put on such a good race last year we couldn't help but ask
if they would let us include it as part of the CCAR series. Thankfully they did and they have come up with a great race route
around Rostrevor. Expect great biking sections, open mountain runs and fantastic scenery along the full race route. It also
gives us CCAR folk a chance to race against those we would normally watch racing during our events!
The race will start
from Carlingford Lough Yacht Club, Killowen – just outside Rostrevor on the road to Kilkeel. Camping and showering facilities
will be available at the Start / Finish area. The NTSR crew also hope to have post race food and bar facilities for an after
race bash. The race itself will be approx 40km in length and will be broken down into the following format – Paddle
2km – Cycle 17km – Run 10km – Cycle 9km – Paddle 2km. There will also be some special tasks (you have
been warned) on the day and an optional bonus loop (which will be done on foot) for those who are feeling energetic towards
the end of the race!
The race entry is limited to 50 teams (each team has to have a kayak, which will be supplied by
the event organisers) and there are already over 30 teams entered. We would suggest getting your entry in as soon as possible
to avoid disappointment and to reduce the admin pressure on the guys and gals at NTSR! Entry is via Sportident click here and if you have any problems using the Sportident system a paper entry form is also available upon request.
For
future updates and more race information keep an eye on the Kilbroney Challenge Blogspot
If you have any specific enquiries contact
the folk at NTSR. Their e mail address is hello (at) notthesundayrun.com - replace the (at) with @ and remove the spaces before
and after the (at).
Many who have taken part in our events to date will have seen Shane.
He's the guy behind the lens at all our events. At the end of the 2006/07 series we showed some slideshows from the first
5 events. These have now been added to You Tube and you can click the logo to the left to view them.
