Causeway Coast Adventure Racing (CCAR) wishes to promote the sport of adventure racing in Northern Ireland, and
to provide in particular for the needs of the novice racer.
CCAR got off the ground in 2006 by developing a series of 6 entry level races
to get people hooked
into and enthused about the brilliant sport of adventure racing.
The Causeway Coast Adventure Racing Club is run by a team
of experienced adventure racers and race support personnel, all with many years of race experience. We are a voluntary
club based in Coleraine. (club constition) Members of the club have been participating
in adventure races for a number of years both through-out Ireland and the UK. These races have included anything from short
1 day races to the longer expedition type races lasting 5 or more days.
The 1 day races we ran in 2006/7 incorporated the disciplines of the
larger races, including running/trekking, mountain biking and kayaking, but with smaller distances and less technical
navigation.
The series offered teams an excellent test of their fitness but were
also aimed at helping "would-be racers" to develop skills and endurance across all disciplines in preparation for potentially
having a crack at the bigger, more challenging races.
The time taken to complete each of these races was anything from
between 3 to 6 hours, depending on competitors fitness and skill levels.
For 2009 the club have decided to run a series of races the same as
last year to include both 1 day events and 2 day events. We will also be helping with the running of Diamond
Quest Ireland which is a charity event and the Cooley Raid, which has got longer since last year but you'll also have
the chance of doing the older short version which will be renamed as the CuCuhulain Challenge.
The club will also organise two youth events for 2009. The
first of these will take place on 5th April at Baronscourt and the second will be in September date and location TBC.
